Two of Moray’s politicians went head to head yesterday in a soaking wet challenge.
It was the turn of MSP Richard Lochhead yesterday who competed against his fellow SNP rival Angus Robertson in the ice bucket dare.
Participants are nominated for the challenge which is sweeping social media and must complete it 24 hours from the time they are asked, all in aid of charity. They have to nominate three people to do the same.
Richard Lochhead nominated president of NFU Scotland Nigel Miller, Scottish chef Tom Kitchin and chairman of Johnstons of Elgin Ian Urquhart.
Mr Lochhead said: “People from all over the world have helped to support this great cause motor neurone disease.”
Mr Robertson nominated station commander of RAF Lossiemouth Mark Chappell, commanding officer at 39 Engineer regiment Tom Marsden and Scottish film and television actor Kevin McKidd.
Both appeared like drowned rats but suffered no ill effects from their icy shower. Mr Lochhead’s son Angus even joked that he had put more ice in his dad’s bucket.
Having begun in America, thousands of people from around the world have braved buckets of icy cold water in an effort to raise money for motor neurone disease and other research charities.
These include Scottish Hollywood A lister James McAvoy who nominated First Minister Alex Salmond and Better Together campaigner Alistair Darling.
Mr Darling’s challenge was completed on behalf of a campaign set up by Gordon Aikman, director of research for the No campaign in Scotland’s independence referendum.
Mr Aikman was a former gymnast and was recently diagnosed with motor neurone disease which could leave him in a wheelchair by Christmas.
It is not yet known whether the three nominated by each side are willing to take up the challenge.
