Four RAF personnel from Lossiemouth have almost completed their 3,000 mile charity cycle trek around UK bases.
Having set off on Monday they reached their furthest point south yesterday at RAF St Mawgan.
Their journey has been far from plain sailing having had electrical gremlins on one bike and a spot of welding on another.
Unfortunately, due to a minor mishap, FS Mark Ratcliffe’s bike suffered accidental damage and was unfit to ride so he had to join them at a later point.
They also got a chance to see the work of the RAF Benevolent Fund in action when they met up with Sean Allerton, an ex SAC gunner with the RAF Regiment who was injured in a crash 21 years ago and is now a tetraplegic.
Mr Allerton says the RAFBF were with him from the moment he opened his eyes and held his hand throughout his whole recovery
Safely tucked up in their panniers, the team have a bottle of the RAF Lossiemouth 75th Anniversary whisky by Gordon & Macphail and a bottle of local micro-brewery, Windswept Brewing’s, limited edition Wolf of Glen Moray.
At each stop, they have a station official signing a Certificate of Authenticity and once the ride is completed, both bottles will be auctioned off to raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
They will head home via Wales and Anglesey and will finish their epic journey at the Highland Military Tattoo at Fort George tomorrow evening.
