Hundreds of pounds worth of tobacco goods have been seized and a Moray shopkeeper fined by trading standards officers.
Moray Council’s trading standards team visited the shop in Elgin and fined the owner £200 for selling tobacco wraps without the proper registration and permission.
They also seized £300 worth of stock, including peach and berry flavoured tobacco wraps, for possible future legal proceedings. The wraps are used for rolling cigarettes and cigars, but are sometimes also used for cannabis smoking.
It comes after the shop owner ignored previous advice from the trading standards team to register with the Scottish Government to sell tobacco products.
Moray trading standards manager Peter Adamson said: “While these products may be considered undesirable, they are not illegal.
“Anyone selling tobacco products, including wraps, must be registered with the Scottish Government. Wraps carry the same serious health risks as other tobacco products.”
