Scottish Water bosses are calling for “patience and understanding” during vital drainage and sewage work which is expected to disrupt supplies and traffic in a Moray town.
The “essential” upgrade work in Keith’s Moss Street, which is aimed at alleviating flooding problems, is expected to begin on Monday, October 13.
George Leslie Ltd will lead the £840,000 project, which includes a replacement water main and a new underground sewer between the Findlater Lane and Broad Lane junction.
Scottish Water’s regional community manager, Steve Scott, said the work should be completed in five months, during which there would be no vehicle access to and from Moss Street from Findlater Lane, Smiddie Lane, Spinners Lane, Fairmers Lane and Broad Lane.
He said: “The works will be done in sections, and traffic management will move as per the progress of work.
“Local diversions will be in place and will be adequately signed. If access is restricted our contractors will liaise with affected customers.
“There will be construction traffic and noise during the work, however we will try to keep any disruption to a minimum.
“There will be some interruptions to the water supply and all customers affected by this will be given notice beforehand.
“We would like to thank local people for their patience and understanding whilst we carry out this essential work.”
Keith and Cullen councillor Gary Coull said: “There used to be issues with surface water sitting on Moss Street, and it certainly caused a lot of problems.”
