It is the end of an era for one Moray farming family as they prepare to sell up after 88 years.
The Cruickshank family took over Starhill Farm at Crossroads, Keith in 1926.
The 150acre farm, which used to stock sheep, has been in the hands of three generations of Cruickshanks and now the owner Carol Cruickshank is moving up the road to a smaller house.
Mrs Cruickshank, 66, who has lived there for 46 years, said: “My husband’s grandfather James Cruickshank first had the farm in 1926 till the late 1950s and came here from Portsoy. It would have been mainly horses back then in the early days.
“After my father-in-law Donald Cruickshank died in 1987 we built the place up and did contracting.
“My husband James died in 2006 and my daughters helped out after that, we carried on for four years. I had a knee operation and had to give up the sheep and from there we rented and receded.”
Mrs Cruickshank added: “There has been a lot of changes in the time that we have had the farm with subsidiaries and changes in regulation.”
She said one of the reasons that they were having to sell up was because she and her late husband had six daughters and never had a son to pass the farm onto.
Her husband’s father Donald went to Crossroads primary when he was eight and four generations of Cruickshank’s have gone to the school.
Mrs Cruickshank said she wished the new owners all the best as the farm has given the family many happy times.
