A litter of baby porkers received a fright in Moray on Wednesday as low-flying RAF Tornados boomed overhead during a simulated attack exercise at Kinloss barracks.
The piglets, who live at a specialist breeds farm near Rose Isle on the back road to the base, were caught off guard by the unexpected flypast.
The farmer on site had been apprehensive about the prospect of another low-flying exercise, after a pilot forgot to shut off his afterburners during a previous simulated attack of a similar nature and terrified the piglets.
However, barring a slight jump, the panic was short-lived as the planes passed by without incident, and mum and her piglets happily returned to snuffling and pottering about the mud in peace.
An RAF Lossiemouth spokesman said: “Sometimes operational requirements mean that RAF Lossiemouth has to use the airfield at Kinloss Barracks.
“This small number of low level flypasts are essential for our air crews. As with all flying plans, the times may be brought forward or back slightly depending on weather and aircraft preparation requirements.”
