A major refurbishment of a key Moray building, which has lasted for more than a year, is finally near to completion.
The scaffolding which has been a feature of Elgin’s Town Hall for months has been taken down as work on the £1.25million refurbishment is nearing an end.
Representatives from the main contractor, Morrison Construction and Moray Council yesterday met with user groups to discuss the progress of the works.
Morrison Construction assured the local authority that the building would be handed over on November 28 as planned.
Several key events are due to take place in the hall in December, such as the annual panto, and organisers were keen to learn if the project was on schedule.
The council’s property resources manager Eddie Milne confirmed to the user group that the works are all on schedule.
“Morrison’s will formally hand the building over on the contract completion date,” he said.
He added: “A lot of the work has been done to the fabric of the building and this will not be immediately obvious, such as roof replacement with added insulation, improvements to heating controls, complete electrical re-wiring, new energy-efficient windows, and new lighting throughout.
“Other improvements that will be immediately apparent include complete refurbishment of all toilet areas with new sanitary appliances, toilet cubicles and floor coverings.”
The refurbished hall will boast a new sound system and 40-channel mixer deck located at the back of the auditorium, better lighting controls, new stage curtains, reconditioned stage floor, and a host of other minor improvements.
During the course of November, training will be provided for the new lighting and sound controls and will be available to user groups by request.
