The Elgin sky was lit up in spectacular style on Saturday night as thousands of people turned out for the town’s annual bonfire and fireworks celebration.
Despite the poor weather the celebrations went off with a bang as a crowd of thousands turned out in the rain to see Sandy Mellis light this year’s bonfire and torch the guy provided by the members of the Out of Darkness Theatre Company in Elgin.
Elgin Rotary Club hosted the event, and club officials last night thanked members of the public for their good spirits and donations.
A spokeswoman for Elgin Rotary Club said: “Despite a glorious day with blue skies, the rain decided to make an appearance early evening, which, we’ve been told by many who attended, didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.
“Our sincere thanks go to Bob Morton and his team at Moray Firth Fireworks Ltd for another fantastic display.
“But most of all we would like to thank the public who truly supported us yet again with their generous donations.”
