Man, 22, charged following Rothes incident with armed police response

A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with an incident in the Moray town of Rothes.
Officers were called to the scene on the town’s High Street at about 3.15pm on Thursday following reports of concern for a person.
Police remained at the scene past 9pm in the evening with reports on social media suggesting between six and 10 police vehicles were situated in the area of the High Street and Land Street.
Photos show some of the officers in attendance were armed. However, police have said there was no wider threat to the public and the armed officers were not required to take action.
A 22-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with a breach of the peace and communication offences.
Chief Inspector Simon Reid said: “Around 3.15pm on Thursday, March 31, officers received a report of concern for a person at a property on High Street, Rothes.
“Officers attended but there was no wider threat to the public.
“A 22-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a breach of the peace and communications offences.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
