An investigation has been launched amid claims a Boys’ Brigade branch in Moray has helped deliver election leaflets.
The Boys’ Brigade is looking into the suggestion that the 4th Lossiemouth branch has been handing out Conservative candidate James Allan’s manifesto.
Mr Allan is captain of the group.
He represents Heldon and Laich and is running to be re-elected at next month’s council election.
In a Facebook post, which he signed off as “Team 4th Lossiemouth”, Mr Allan wrote: “Big thank you to our parents and friends for helping deliver the Lossie Local, my leaflet and the Sunrise leaflet.”
People have taken to social media to question the BB’s support of a political party.
In response, the organisation said it was aware of the concerns and was investigating the situation.
The group said: “The Boys’ Brigade an apolitical organisation and is not connected to any political party nor does it endorse any political party.
“We are aware of concerns raised and are investigating this matter.”
Mr Allan told The National that the allegations were “not true at all”, despite the Facebook post, and that only the parents of those in the Boys’ Brigade had been asked to help distribute the leaflets.
He told the Press and Journal he had been hurt by the “hatred and nastiness” being directed towards him.
He added: “4th Lossie were given the chance to make funds is this difficult times.
“I asked parents, friends and relatives to do the deliveries to make funds for the company.
“Most people were friends and relatives and a few parents and no boys were involved.”
