Caitlin Forsyth graduated with distinction in Oil and Gas Law yesterday – and has already secured a job in the industry.
The 22-year old, originally from Forres, achieved an LLM in Oil and Gas Law and a First Class LLB Honours Law degree.
Ms Forsyth, who recently started a full-time job in her area of study, said: “It feels very strange to be graduating. I’ve got my boyfriend, my grandma and my family friends here, so we’re going out for a nice dinner to celebrate, maybe we’ll have a few drinks but I do have work tomorrow so I can’t go too wild.”
While undertaking her studies, Ms Forsyth wrote her dissertation which focused on decommissioning in the oil and gas industry.
She added: “Decommissioning is a hot topic at the moment, which made it ideal from an academic perspective. However, once I started my research, I actually found that I developed a passion for it and I wish to pursue this further. If anything, my dissertation was the highlight of my time at RGU.
“The industry has to adapt now, it’s gone from exploration and production and as the North Sea begins to mature, it has to eventually face decommissioning.
“I’m hoping to get it published, it’s being circulated under peer review at the moment so fingers crossed.”
