Welcome to our regular look at the latest planning applications lodged with and decided by Moray Council.
This week, the folk behind a new play centre and cafe coming to the Elgin town centre are looking for the OK to erect signs.
And plans are afoot to turn a former vegetable processing business with cold storage facilities into a bonded warehouse.
And Moray planners have approved concrete repairs at Buckie Harbour.
Toy Toon: The signs are good
Toy Toon in Elgin is seeking signage before its anticipated opening this year.
In May, an application seeking to transform a former travel agents premises at 67 High Street into a play centre and cafe was given the go-ahead from planning officers.
Toy Toon will be an interactive role-play centre where children can explore and act out day-to-day situations.
With areas such as a supermarket and a hospital, children can use their imagination and develop their skills through play.
CM Design has submitted an application on behalf of Toytoon Limited for the fascia sign.
Veg business to warehouse
A former vegetable processing business could be turned into a bonded warehouse.
Farningham Planning Limited is representing D&M Winchester in the application for the change of use of the building at 6 Greshop Road, Forres.
The property comprises a two floor building of steel construction offering industrial and office accommodation with external warehouse.
Through its previous use, it has cold storage facilities.
Timber cabins for distillery site
At Wester Greens, Dunphail, timber cabins are being proposed.
Darma Limited is representing the Dunphail Distillery in the application.
Developers are proposing the two cabins for use as office and refreshment areas. Distillery staff will use it regularly and occasional business visitors might even use it for overnight stays.
It comes as work is well underway to build a new craft whisky distillery there.
Vision for the distillery
He told the P&J: “I picked Forres because it is in Moray Speyside and I love the area.
“It is close enough to cites and I have visited Forres many times.”
The distillery will support local contractors, businesses and deliver a jobs boost through the creation of around 10 roles.
In the past week, Moray Council has also determined some applications.
Harbour repairs go ahead
Concrete repairs will go ahead on the piers structures at Buckie Harbour.
The harbour has “voids” – or gaps – at the base of the wall and on the faces of the north and west piers.
Moray West selected Buckie Harbour as the home for its base in a bidding process that also included Wick and Fraserburgh.
Officials looked at up to 20 years of weather analysis as well as projections of costs to transfer personnel to the wind farm before choosing Buckie.
Former stable to turned into granny flat
Plans to convert a former stable into a granny flat and ancillary accommodation have been approved.
Mantilla Home Design submitted the planning application for the Old Manse, Dyke, on behalf of Moira Greene.
Further planning applications can be viewed using Moray Council’s portal.
