A Moray town has become the favourite destination of a Glasgow-based theatre company, which will return to the area for the fifth year next month.

Opera Bohemia will resume its love affair with Lossiemouth on Valentine’s Day, as it tours its latest production, Puccini’s comic opera Gianni Schicchi

The group’s founder Alistair Digges said: “The whole cast always really love visiting Lossiemouth, we have a really nice time there.

“It has become a tradition to stay in the Stotfield Hotel and we try to plan a day off after the show so we can spend time there enjoying the scenery.”

Despite its modest 250 capacity, Lossiemouth Town Hall is a treasured venue for Opera Bohemia.

Mr Digges added: “It’s the perfect space for our intimate productions and there’s always a great atmosphere and a really supportive audience.

“Some of the places we go to are big theatres around Scotland, and the people there are amazed that we make a point of going to Lossiemouth.

“We get absolutely fantastic audiences there, and it has become a tradition for us.”

Each of the group’s tours over the past five years have visited Moray, with a previous show also taking place in Buckie’s Fisherman’s Hall.

Past productions have included La Boheme, Lucia di Lammermoor, Madame Butterfly and Eugene Onegin.

The cast next month will include BBC Kiri Prize winner Shuna Sendall and Scottish Opera Emerging Artist Andrew McTaggart, who plays Schicchi.

Prior to its forthcoming tour, Opera Bohemia staged the show at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival last summer.
