Welcome to our regular look at the latest planning applications passing before Moray Council.
Officials have approved plans for timber cabins at the site of a new distillery currently being built at Dunphail.
Meanwhile, new floodlighting will go ahead at Gordonstoun School’s tennis courts.
Elsewhere, an armed forces charity is looking to turn nurses’ living accommodation at Leanchoil Hospital into a veteran’s activity and day centre temporarily until major plans completed.
And there are plans for more parking facilities at RAF Lossiemouth childcare centre.
More details on each of these applications below.
SUBMITTED: Leanchoil project
An armed forces charity has applied for listed building consent to transform nurse’s living accommodation into a veteran’s activity and day centre temporarily.
Leanchoil Hospital in Forres closed to patients in late 2018 and a trust was formed to find new uses for it.
Now Erskine are looking to make minor alterations to the interior of the building near the hospital. This incudes taking down internal walls to support the change of use for three years.
This is until refurbishment work is completed at Leanchoil Hospital.
LDN Architects llp is representing the armed forces charity in the application.
What is the long-term project for Leanchoil Hospital?
In the long term, the Leanchoil Trust and veteran charity want to create a veterans activity centre in the building.
The £4m project could include a café, meeting rooms and clinics too.
Back in June, NHS Grampian approved Leanchoil Trust’s community transfer request in principle and the trust recently landed a £400,000 boost from the Scottish Land Fund.
The purchase price of £340,000 has been agreed for the sale of the Leanchoil and surrounding woodland.
Erskine have previously spoken about their excitement at moving into the north of Scotland.
SUBMITTED: More parking facilities at RAF Lossie childcare centre
RAF Lossiemouth wants to put in additional parking facilities at their childcare centre.
This includes 10 new vehicle parking bays, one electric charging point, one motorcycle bay and six sheltered cycle stands to accommodate up to 12 bicycles.
The facility is near the station main entrance and takes children from birth to 16 years old.
This year, the Press and Journal have been going behind the scenes at RAF Lossiemouth to give more insight into their operations.
Meanwhile last month, the No 51 Squadron RAF Regiment opened up ahead of their winter deployment to Akrotiri.
APPROVED: Timber cabins for distillery site
Timber cabins will be erected at the site of a new distillery being built at Wester Greens, Dunphail.
Darma Limited represented the Dunphail Distillery in the application.
The two cabins will used as office and refreshment areas.
Distillery staff will use it regularly and occasional business visitors might even use it for overnight stays.
It comes as work is well under way to build a new craft whisky distillery there.
Vision for the distillery
He told the P&J: “I picked Forres because it is in Moray Speyside and I love the area.
“It is close enough to cites and I have visited Forres many times.”
The distillery will support local contractors, businesses and deliver a jobs boost through the creation of around 10 roles.
It aims to produce a full-bodied, fruit-forward spirit in both unpeated and peated styles.
APPROVED: New floodlights for Gordonstoun tennis courts
Plans have been approved to install new floodlighting at tennis courts.
The plans are for courts at Gordonstoun School.
This school is a co-educational independent school for boarding and day pupils in Moray.
It is named after the 150-acre estate owned by Sir Robert Gordon in the 17th century; the school now uses this estate as its campus.
It is located in Duffus to the north-west of Elgin.
CM Design represented the school in the application for the new floodlights.
Further planning applications can be viewed using Moray Council’s portal.
