Lossiemouth’s annual lantern walk will return next week.
Hundreds of people gather annually with their homemade lanterns to honour 10th century missionary Irish St Gerardine.
He was believed to have lived in the former cave near Lossiemouth war memorial.
From there, it was foretold St Gerardine once stood at the mouth of the cave, clutching a lantern raised skyward to warn ships of the treacherous dangers in the water and guide them safely into the harbour at Spynie Loch.
‘A really glorious evening’
Iona Kielhorn, chairwoman of Lossiemouth Heritage Association is hoping to see a similar turnout from the previous procession.
She said: “The children have been making the lanterns themselves in school.
“Anyone who wants to (come along) with their parents, take a lantern, not candles.
“Last time it was a great success, we had about 300 people, little children in pushchairs, dogs, we had the lot, it was a really glorious evening,” she said.
Mrs Kielhorn added they will walk “over to St Gerardine’s cave, up to Prospect Terrace and walk along to St James Church” giving you a “wonderful view” of Lossiemouth.
At the church, hot beverages such as tea, coffee and hot chocolate will also been on offer.
The walk will kick off on Tuesday, November 8 at 6pm from Lossiemouth Station Car Park.
