An investigation has been launched following a theft from a Moray store.
Burghead Store and Post Office was broken into just before 2am on Sunday.
The business on Grant Street, which is currently up for sale, was cordoned off by police throughout the day.
Photos from the scene show that the glass doors at the entrance of the store were smashed during the incident.
‘Businesses have enough to contend with’
Local councillor Bridget Mustard said she was “shocked” to hear about the break-in.
She said: “I am shocked and saddened to hear about the break-in at the Post Office. I have full confidence in the police, that they will be able to find those responsible and would ask if any members of the community have information to come forward to support the investigation. My thoughts go out to the Post Office staff.”
Councillor John Cowe added: “I think it is very unfortunate that this is happening. Businesses have enough to contend with at the moment without this type of thing happening.”
Officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the break-in or has relevant information to get in touch.
A police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a break-in to and theft from a premises on Grant Street, Burghead, Elgin, around 1.55am on Sunday, November 20.
