A major search operation is underway to find a man who has gone missing after trying to swim in the River Findhorn.
Police officers have been joined in their efforts to find Matthew Crosbie by RAF Lossiemouth, coastguard, fire crews and specialist police searchers.
A police statement confirmed that the 19-year-old had entered the river at the area known as Randolph’s Leap, Relugas, by Forres with the intention of swimming but got into difficulties and failed to make it back to the river bank, sparking the search.
The police statement added: “Despite initial searches, Mr Crosbie has not been found. Enquiries will continue to trace Mr Crosbie and will involve further coordinated search efforts.
“Mr Crosbie is described as aged 19, 5’9” in height, thick black wavy hair which is quite short. He is stocky build with olive complexion.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
