An award-winning Moray castle is making a desperate appeal for volunteers ahead of its season opening in less than two weeks.
Brodie Castle will open its doors on March 29, but needs more staff to help welcome visitors, act as tour guides and even assist in the tearooms or grounds.
The castle became the first National Trust for Scotland property to achieve a gold award in an eco-friendly tourism scheme in November last year and staff and keen to keep their standards high.
Property manager Shona Ferguson said: “We have quite a good number of volunteers at Brodie, who all do valuable work, but there is always a certain amount of turnover each year.
“Volunteers come from a wide area — some for just one day a week, some for several days in the week.
“We would hope to recruit before we open, so that we have a chance to get them working along with the more experienced staff and volunteers right away.
“Through the winter, work has progressed on a thorough programme of deep cleaning. By opening day all will be spick and span once more, ready for a fresh wave of visitors.”
As well as the opportunity to train as visitor guides, volunteers can assist in the tearoom, shop, garden and grounds. There is no ranger provision at present, but anyone with experience and a keen interest in wildlife and nature is welcome to apply on a voluntary basis.
After a qualifying period, volunteers can also receive a card giving free entry to other NTS properties and shop discounts.
