The blaze broke out on Ben Rinnes, the tallest peak in the area, in Glenrinnes Estate, near Keith. Fire and Rescue Service were first alerted to the fire at around 4.50pm. It is understood the fire spread from a controlled heather burning. Five appliances, including an all-terrain forestry vehicle, are at the scene. Around 30 firefighters – from Keith, Elgin, Dufftown, Aberlour and Rothes – used water backpacks and beaters to try and stamp out the blaze.
