The Scottish Dolphin Centre at Spey Bay is hoping to make a big splash with its annual Really Wild Festival next week.
The event, on Monday, May 4, will be a celebration of Moray’s scenic outdoors and the fantastic array of wildlife and heritage that the area has to offer.
The free festival will offer a programme of family activities, including a 23ft climbing wall that will allow children and adults to enjoy spectacular views right across the Moray Firth.
Local outdoor charity Wild Things will also be offering local food and craft stalls as well as entertainment, including dolphin watching, music and tours around the on-site icehouse — the largest of its kind in the UK.
Kate Hannigan, coordinator of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation-run centre, said: “The Really Wild Festival has become a great annual feature at the WDC Scottish Dolphin Centre.
“You can still come along and enjoy the outstanding natural beauty and wildlife on offer, but on this day there is even more to see and do than usual. We have so much for children and adults alike to enjoy.”
The festival will run from 10.30am – 4.30pm and the council car park at Spey Bay will be reserved for disabled parking on the day.
Spey Bay Golf Club is providing day parking for £2,just a short walk from the centre.
A cart pulled by two Clydesdale horses will also be on hand to take visitors to and from the car park.
A small population of almost 200 bottlenose dolphins lives in the Moray Firth – the only surviving pod of its kind in the North Sea.
The Firth is also home to minke whales and harbour porpoise as well as common and white-beaked dolphins
