A domestic abuser who bombarded his estranged partner with 70 messages in a single day and lied to her family that she was a prostitute has been ordered to stay away from her for three years.
Przemyslaw Wapniarski’s nearly three-month campaign of abuse included violence, intimidation and controlling behaviour, Elgin Sheriff Court was told.
The 45-year-old abused the woman at their Elgin home by pushing her into a doorframe, locking her from the house, monitoring her phone use, damaging household items and repeatedly making derogatory remarks towards her.
Bombarded her with insulting texts
Fiscal depute Karen Poke said that the following month, once bail conditions were in place to protect the woman, Wapniarski began sending “highly offensive and threatening messages”.
Then on November 12 last year, things escalated to the point he sent her 70 of the messages in one day.
At the same time, he made claims to family members that the woman was making money as a prostitute.
He alarmed them further by saying that she was in danger and that there were cameras hidden around her home.
The next day Wapniarski made knowingly false claims to the police that the woman had left her young teenage child alone.
She was investigated and officers found the child was in fact safe and well at a sleepover.
Wapniarski admitted a course of behaviour that was domestically abusive towards his partner and breaching his bail conditions.
‘He was drinking 24 hours’
Defence agent Patrick O’Dea said his client, a father-of-two, “acted atrociously” towards his family for which he is “particularly ashamed”.
“He was consuming large amounts of alcohol at the time,” he said. “He was going through a personal crisis. He describes it as a mental breakdown.
“He was drinking 24 hours a day.
“He does accept it’s a very serious matter and it would be within the court’s powers today to send him to custody. He wants to show the court that this type of behaviour won’t be repeated.”
He added that Wapniarski had since stopped consuming alcohol and throughout all his difficulties had managed to maintain his quarry job of 13 years.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood handed Wapniarski, of Cameron Park Brae, Elgin, 280 hours of unpaid work, a three-year supervision order and told him he must stay away from his ex-partner for three years.
