A small child and a baby were among eight people who escaped a four-car pile-up on the A96 without serious injury yesterday.
Emergency services were called shortly before 1pm after a Ford Fiesta, an Audi Q3, a Peugeot 508 and a Vauxhall Corsa collided on the outskirts of Elgin.
The four vehicles had been in a line of traffic before the smash, which happened on the approach to the Linkwood roundabout, near Waulkmill House.
Two ambulances from Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin went to the aid of the casualties.
One left the incident shortly after 1.15pm, while crew members from the second unit provided treatment at the scene until after 1.35pm.
Following police inquiries, the male driver of the Corsa and his three passengers — a woman, a child and a baby — drove away from the incident unscathed.
The Focus driver and an elderly couple and a woman in the Q3 were also uninjured.
The condition of the Peugeot driver could not be confirmed last night, but a police spokesman said it was not believed to be serious.
A police spokesman said: “There was a four-vehicle road traffic accident on the A96, east of Elgin, which occurred at 12.55pm.
“The road was not closed, and there were no reports of any significant injuries.
“Police officers remained at the scene as recovery was ongoing.”
The accident caused mile-long delays in Elgin and tailbacks from the east stretched four miles as far back as Lhanbryde for much of the the afternoon.
Although the busy Elgin to Aberdeen road did not close, police officers remained at the scene for several hours to direct traffic as two of the vehicles were blocking the westbound carriageway while they awaited recovery.
