The third instalment of the Wicker Man trilogy will be filmed in the north and north-east.
Director Robin Hardy will use locations in Highland, Moray and Shetland for his new film, The Wrath of the Gods.
It is the final movie in the trilogy, which include 1973 The Wicker Man and the 2011 follow-up The Wicker Tree.
Scenes from The Wrath of the Gods will also be filmed in Iceland.
It will tell the story of a Californian company which creates a theme park featuring the Norse Saga, a story of warring gods, giants and elves.
The director is now offering film fans a chance to feature as an extra in the film in return for a donation towards its making.
Mr Hardy has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the film, with the hope of raising £140,000. The money will go towards development of “steampunk” elements and the building a Viking ship.
Supporters who back the campaign will be offered a range of unique rewards related to the film including the chance to feature as an extra, a credit on the film and a VIP set tour.
Mr Hardy said: “I always planned for there to be a number of films in what I like to think of as The Wicker Man genre, and although it has been a long time in the making I think fans will find it worth the wait, especially as they can now get involved with the final film in a way that would have been unimaginable when I made the original more than 40 years ago.”
