A children’s charity yesterday staged a touching tribute to the toddler who inspired its formation.
The sixth annual Logan’s Family Fun Day took place at Lossiemouth’s playing fields with a homage to the youngster, who died in 2009, forming one of the event’s most emotional moments.
Logan Main died from neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer.
When his young playmates were told of his death they were asked to remember Logan each time they saw a rainbow in the sky.
The colourful image has now become a symbol of the charity formed in his name, and yesterday multicoloured balloons were released as
Lossiemouth singer Shiela Hull sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Chairman of Logan’s Fund, Cameron Mackintosh, said: “The rainbow is a significant part of Logan’s story, and his parents asked that the song be played for the balloon release.
“They led out a group of children who have battled, or are battling, life-threatening illness.
“The balloon release is in their and Logan’s honour and it was performed during that song – it was very emotional.”
The event began at 10am beneath blue skies and in scorching heat, and although the weather became cooler as the day progressed crowds still flocked to the gathering in huge numbers.
“It’s too early to tell how much we raised but I think this was the best fun day we have had yet, and there seemed to be a consistent crowd throughout the day,” said Mr Mackintosh.
“Now we just need to build on that for next year.”
A group of life-size Minions, from the summer hit movie, proved popular with the youngsters – who all flocked to grab photographs with the bright yellow characters.
Entertainment was also supplied by the Moray Tribal Belly Dance group, the Sfear Kickboxing academy and dancers from the Rock Academy.
