Disabled youngsters are being encouraged to join a Moray sports club.
The disability sports club, run by Moray Council’s Active Schools section, has been running for a year and offers a variety of activities to primary and secondary pupils with physical disabilities.
The group meets in the games hall at Milne’s High School in Fochabers every Monday, from 5.30pm-7pm during term time.
The 90-minute session is split into two, beginning with a range of sporting activities followed by the Paralympic sport of boccia, which is similar to bowls but adapted to be all-inclusive.
The club is linked to Grampian Disability Sport, the governing body for disability sports in the north-east.
Aberdeen-born Paralympic cycling hero Neil Fachie, who is blind, said getting involved with sport is a fantastic way for children across the north-east to gain confidence beyond just the sports hall.
He said: “It’s one of those things that you probably need that confidence to get involved, but everyone I have known who got involved in disabled sport said confidence is all about taking part in all aspects of life.
“Getting out there, having fun and realising your disability doesn’t have to stop you doing anything — that is the message I would strongly encourage anyone with a disability to listen to.
“I wasn’t a very confident person at all until I got involved with sport. It really can change your life.”
