A car had both rear tyres ripped off in a two-car crash near Elgin yesterday.
The accident happened on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness on the outskirts of Elgin at 2.50pm, and though no injuries were reported both vehicles suffered extensive damage.
A blue Vauxhall Corsa veered from the motorway and into a small bridge by the roadside, and the impact of the crash caused both back wheels to dislodge from a blue Volkswagen Passat.
The incident occurred just beyond the 30mph speed limit sign on the Elgin to Lhanbryde road, and left the eastbound lane of the carriageway entirely blocked.
Tailbacks stretched for miles in each direction as efforts were made to remove the damaged vehicles from the scene.
However, a police spokeswoman said the road was cleared in time for rush hour commuters.
“The vehicle recovery crews arrived shortly after 4pm and the road was cleared by 5.10pm,” she said.
“There were lengthy tailbacks during the afternoon, and police monitored the scene throughout.”
