A group of RAF Lossiemouth personnel have been commended for their top-flight fundraising efforts on behalf of the Moray community.
Members of the base’s support wing team, who call themselves Air Max, collected the highest amount of sponsorship money in their section at Elgin’s Marafun event this June.
The town’s Rotary Club, which organises the biennial charity relay race, has now awarded the team a special prize in recognition of their hard work.
The group comprises captain Andy Wonnacott, Wing Commander Chantal Baker, Flight Sergeant Ally Campbell, Senior Aircraftwoman Gina Stroyan and Senior Aircraftwoman Lucy Currie.
Together, they amassed £300 to go towards the Marafun’s staggering £46,000 total this year.
Team leader Mr Wonnacott said the group aspired to top that sum at the next of the group’s challenges in 2017.
Mr Wonnacott added: “All of the team are keen runners, and took part in the Marafun for the challenge as well as to raise some money.
“I’d like to thank the Rotary Club of Elgin for this award, we hope that we will be able to raise even more in the next Marafun.”
The group competed in the Emergency Services category, and the trophy they were presented with will now take pride of place in the station’s gym – as a source of inspiration for other budding competitors.
The funds raised during the 13th edition of the event this summer were recently split between 100 local charities.
During the challenging event, teams of five were tasked with running five miles each around a circuit through Elgin town centre.
Since it was first staged in 1991, the Marafun has raised almost £700,000 for good causes.
