SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson shows off some of his Johnstons of Elgin ties outside the Houses of Parliament in London.
The Moray MP has a “soft spot” for the knitted silk accessories, which have become his signature attire for his weekly jousts with David Cameron at Prime Minister’s Questions in the Commons.
He chose not to reveal how many he has in his collection.
But now the Speyside-manufacturer has opened a store in New Bond Street, Mr Robertson will be able to shop to his heart’s content – both in his constituency and in the capital.
He told the Press and Journal: “Johnstons of Elgin is a calling card for Speyside and Moray.
“It’s one of the world’s finest cashmere and textile manufacturers and I have a soft spot for their knitted silk ties.
“Every week I get to ask two questions at Prime Minister’s Questions and I have chosen the opportunity to give some free publicity to one of the most important employers and economic actors in the area.”
Hailing the flagship London store in the city’s fashionable West End, he added: “Johnstons of Elgin is really well known in its Moray home, also across Scotland.
“Now with a shop in the heart of London on New Bond Street it is open to the city and international shoppers.
“It’s a great shop front, not just for Johnstons of Elgin, but for Speyside and Moray and for Scottish cashmere.”
Established in 1797, the company has three shops in Scotland – at its Elgin and Hawick mills and in St Andrews – but the New Bond Street one is its first in England.
There is also a store at Nantucket in the US, and a franchise outlet at Auckland in New Zealand.
Eight staff have been employed to work at the new shop, including Elgin-born Hannah Swann, who had a Saturday job at the business as a schoolgirl.
A further three roles in warehouse support and merchandising have also been created by the venture.
