A Moray woman who raised £100,000 to fight a devastating and incurable illness has been nominated for a top charity honour.
Lucy Lintott mounted a crusade to collect the cash to battle Motor Neurone Disease (MND) after being diagnosed with the condition in November 2013.
Little more than two years later, and following a mammoth effort, she managed to reach her six-figure goal.
The inspirational 21-year-old is now vying to be crowned as the country’s charity champion at an awards ceremony recognising some of Scotland’s most admirable fundraisers.
Miss Lintott said the MND Scotland charity put her name forward for consideration without letting her know about it.
She said it came as a huge surprise when she received an e-mail from the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations advising her that she had been shortlisted.
Miss Lintott added: “I was checking my messages on my phone and when I saw that I couldn’t believe it.
“The people I have been nominated against are all really deserving too, so just being in the category is amazing to me.
“I don’t know how I’d feel if I won the award, that would be crazy.”
The determined Garmouth resident hopes her nomination can spread a message of hope to others who have been diagnosed with MND.
She added: “For me, the main thing is showing people that they can still have a life even after being diagnosed with a terminal illness.”
Miss Lintott is one of five finalists that have been picked in the “charity champion” category of the awards programme.
The prize-giving ceremony will take place at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh on Thursday, June 9, and will be hosted by TV and radio presenter Kaye Adams.
Miss Lintott’s ambitious campaign touched the hearts of residents across Moray, who generously boosted her tally.
Although she has now surpassed her £100,000 target, she continues to collect donations to help fund research into curing MND.
Her next fundraiser will be a “tipsy tea party” in Garmouth Village Hall on Sunday, from 2pm to 4pm.
Adults will be able to enjoy a glass of prosecco along with an afternoon tea, and there will also be raffles and a lucky dip.
People can vote for Miss Lintott in the Scottish Charity Awards until next Friday, May 13, at www.scvo.org.uk/charity-awards/lucy-lintott
