People called Gordon from all over the world will arrive in Moray at the weekend to be part of Scotland’s newest Highland Games.
Crowds of up to 10,000 have attended the event at Gordon Castle near Fochabers in recent years, which is the spiritual home of the clan bearing the same name.
This year’s event is only the sixth time it has been held and visitors can expect all the flair and tradition of sporting events, dancers and pipe bands.
Estate owner Angus Gordon Lennox thinks the games are a chance for people to reconnect with their heritage.
He said: “Sometimes, people can lose sight of their roots and we decided that it would be wonderful to celebrate and congratulate everyone named Gordon.
“It’s a name that has amazing historical significance, but as a name it is being used less and less.
“It was only 915th in the top baby names of 2015 and we hope, by drawing attention to it during out sixth Highland Games and Country Fair, we can reverse that trend and make Gordons feel special once again.”
Famous faces including Scotland football boss Gordon Strachan and fiery celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay have been invited to the event.
Former members of the Gordon Highlanders and owners of Gordon Setter dogs, which originated on the estate, are also being encouraged to attend.
Everyone with the name will be welcomed to the games on Sunday as an honorary guest. The event runs from 10.30am to 5pm.
