It’s a long way from the Copacabana to Cummingston, but a popular annual raft race in Moray will have a Brazilian carnival theme this summer.
The Royal Air Force base and Moray Council have chosen a Rio Olympic backdrop for the event that goes under starters orders in August.
Flight Lieutenant Ollie Harbridge, who is coordinating the proceedings, is keen to see as much money raised as possible for charities Cash For Kids and Lucky 2 B Here.
He said: “The Lossiemouth Raft Race is a well-known and well-loved event and last year was a great success.
“But we always want to raise more money for our nominated charities and I hope it will be bigger than ever this year.
“I hope everyone will come along and enjoy themselves as well as supporting these two charities, and that the wind isn’t as strong as it was last year.”
The popular event in the town regularly sees packed crowds at the harbour, watching which of the rafts can stay afloat and finish first to win the coveted toilet seat trophy.
The colourful vessels are created by teams with prizes also available for the best design and best costume.
Building firm Tulloch of Cummingston is sponsoring this year’s competition, which is on Sunday, August 7.
Managing Director John Tulloch said: “I hope to have a Tulloch’s team entered in the race this year – although I’m not sure our construction skills will necessarily give us an advantage when building rafts.
