A senior PE teacher who asked a pupil to send him explicit pictures of herself has been struck off.
Jonathan Wylie asked the 15-year-old to send indecent images of herself, and indicated that he wanted to kiss her.
The 33-year-old, who was acting head of PE at Elgin Academy at the time, was branded “despicable” when he was jailed for two years in December.
And now, the disgraced teacher – who was also found guilty of taking, or permitting the taking of, indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs, of a child – has been struck off the General Teaching Council for Scotland’s register.
Wylie, who maintained his innocence even after being found guilty after a trial at Elgin Sheriff Court, did not attend the hearing in Edinburgh to defend himself and signed a “removal with consent order” when the case called.
In their findings, the panel agreed to ban him from the classroom – and said he would not be allowed to reapply to the register for two years.
They said: “The respondent indicated to GTCS that he wished to be removed from the register in view of the allegations made against him relating to his fitness to teach.
“Once the respondent’s name has been removed from the register, he remains so removed unless and until an application for re-registration is made by him, and a fitness to teach panel directs that the application be granted.
“Again in light of the consent that the respondent provided, the panel directed that he should be prohibited from making an application for re-registration for a period of two years from the date of removal.”
Wylie was suspended from Elgin Academy as soon as the allegations about him came to light, and was sacked immediately after being convicted.
He targeted the young girl between September 25 and November 14, 2013, when she was a pupil at the school.
During a three-day trial last year, the court heard a police investigation into his internet activity revealed online searches for girls as young as 12.
A forensic analyst said he had visited sites with titles such as “best jailbait albums ever”.
Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov said Wylie, who is originally from Elgin but latterly lived in Maryburgh, Ross-shire, had committed “despicable offences” which amounted to “planned and predatory behaviour”.
She said: “People send their children to school and quite rightly expect them to be in a protective environment. You have betrayed that trust.”
She added that Wylie had “exploited” his victim, adding that his crimes were of a “sexual nature”.
The sheriff said Wylie had shown “no remorse”, and that his behaviour only stopped “because you were found out”.
She jailed him for two years, and said he would also spend a further 24 months on licence after his release.
Wylie was also put on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
