The organisers of a popular family fun day in Elgin are expecting bumper crowds to flock to this year’s event.
Elgin Rotary Club will stage its biennial Motorfun showcase in Cooper Park on Sunday, June 5.
The group holds the extravaganza every two years to thank the Moray residents who offer support to their fundraising appeals.
While its primary attraction is the hundreds of gleaming vehicles that are dotted across the park, there will be a host of other activities for people to enjoy.
The Buckie and Elgin pipe bands will join forces to launch the event at noon by parading through the expanse.
Lord Lieutenant of Moray, Grenville Johnston, asked Elgin Rotary Club to give the forthcoming function a royal twist as a means of marking the Queen’s 90th birthday.
The Rotarians have not let him down, and havset aside an area for a special “picnic in the park” in tribute to the occasion.
The designated picnic area will feature a whisky and prosecco bar sponsored by Elgin’s Glen Moray distillery, and an ice cream stall organised by Hopeman’s Stew n Drew’s parlour.
There will be locally made pancakes and home bakes, which will be served along with hot refreshments.
Elgin Rotary Club will also operate a barbecue during the event.
Club member Michelle Anderson said she expected huge numbers to attend this year’s extravaganza.
She said: “Six car dealerships will be displaying different vehicles, and we’ll have more than 250 there on the day.
“That’s a lot higher than usual, and we think we’ll get a good turnout – especially with the picnic element.
“The weather forecast for Sunday looks good, and we hope it stays that way as the atmosphere really improves with the sun out.”
