The family of a Moray mother who died of cancer have honoured her memory by raising £2,000 to help others with the disease.
Paula McPherson-McIntyre lost her battle with the illness last summer, aged just 33.
Her devastated family said the devoted mum-of-two was “inspirational” in how she handled her fight against the terminal condition.
In the months before her passing, Mrs McPherson-McIntyre organised her dream wedding. And yesterday, her widower, Peter McIntyre, joined forces with her friends and family to stage a golf tournament in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.
Golfers played four rounds at Maverston Golf Course, by Urquhart – beginning at 6am and finishing at 8.30pm.
Mrs McPherson-McIntyre’s mum, Aileen McPherson, said she would have been touched by the efforts being carried out in her name.
But she added that her daughter would have been most pleased that the money gathered would benefit others suffering from the disease.
She said: “The most important thing is raising awareness and helping those who are struggling with cancer.
“Every family has been affected by cancer, and Paula would have been pleased that her name was being used to help that cause.”
The event was also held in honour of Moray man Gordon “Gogs” Grant, who died from cancer three years ago in his early 60s.
His nephew, Danny Lyons, headed up fundraising efforts on his behalf and estimated that the golfing challenge itself has raised £1,500, while a raffle taking place at the clubhouse next weekend had already secured approximately £500.
He added: “It really has exceeded my expectations, I reckon we will have more than £2,000 by the time it is all counted.
“We want to support Macmillan nurses, and to do it in honour of those that we have lost.
“We also want to make sure they have all the money they need.”
Mr Lyons has collected donations from well-known Moray businesses including Johnstons of Elgin, and the Walkers shortbread firm, for next Sunday’s raffle.
Mrs McPherson-McIntyre was diagnosed with melanoma after a mole on the back of her neck became malignant in 2013.
She underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy and alternative treatment in Ireland during her two-year fight against the condition.
Donations can still be made, at www.justgiving.com/Danny-Lyons2.
