A new school being built in the south of Elgin has been named Linkwood Primary.
The project was approved by Moray Council earlier this year to help tackle a looming capacity crisis at the town’s other primaries.
Elgin Community Council, and parents whose children will attend the school when it opens in 2018, were asked to think of names.
They decided it would make most sense to call it after the south-east part of the town.
The community council also suggested Birkenhill Primary School as an alternative, but councillors opted for Linkwood Primary as the name had been endorsed by parents.
Elgin City North councillor Kirsty Reid said: “We should go with Linkwood Primary School, as that was put forward by both parents and members of the community.”
Heldon and Laich member Chris Tuke joked that he was surprised “Schooly McSchoolface” had not been suggested as a name, after a public appeal to name a £200million polar research ship last month returned “Boaty McBoatface” as the most popular option.
