Police have launched an investigation into the theft of a mountain bike worth more than £1,000 from a shed in Elgin.
Officers yesterday sent out an appeal for information after the white Scott Voltage FR20 bicycle was removed from a property in the High Street area over the weekend.
They believe the bike was taken between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning.
The specialist downhill mountain bike is used by those with an interest in extreme riding.
Constable Lawrence Ramsey, of Elgin Police Office, urged residents to keep their eyes peeled for it.
He said: “I would appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time in question to contact police as soon as possible, any information could be of assistance.
“Likewise, if anyone has spotted a bike matching the description or is offered one for sale, they should please contact their local police office immediately on 101.”
He added: “I would like to also take this opportunity to remind bike owners to keep their bicycles and possessions secure, especially during the summer months when people will be enjoying the outdoors and using their bikes.
“It’s important to invest in a good quality secure bike lock, especially if they are leaving the bike in a public place.
“And property should not be left on display, where it’s an easy target for opportunistic thieves.”
