A new playground facility at a Moray school has been dedicated to a former pupil.
Yesterday, Cullen pupils got their first opportunity to try out the challenging £30,000 adventure trail.
During the opening ceremony at the school, the equipment was officially christened Ryan’s Trail, in memory of former pupil Ryan Wood, who died from a brain disorder last year.
Students were eager to lead the way in completing the obstacles yesterday, before leaving for the summer holidays.
School council chairwoman, Amelia Teasdale, 11, said: “It wasn’t always easy, but with the help of the donation and grants, it was made possible. It’s really good and very challenging.”
Caitlin Carnegie, 11, added: “It’s really challenging for all children from P1 to P7. I like the climbing handles.”
The equipment was funded, following an extensive £4,000 fundraising drive from the school, as well as grants from the National Lottery, the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund and the Cullen Common Good Fund.
Headteacher Moyra Hendry said: “This year has been absolutely marvellous as the school council, parents’ support group, local community, parents and children have worked together to make this a reality.
“I also think it’s very fitting that the trail has been officially named Ryan’s Trail after a former pupil who enjoyed his time at Cullen and played many times in our playground in and out of school time.”
During yesterday’s ceremony, a bench was also dedicated to the school’s former janitor David Robertson.
