A family has raised more than £3,000 for mental health charities in memory of a Kinloss dad who took his own life last year.
Michelle MacDonald and her loved ones felt compelled to remember her brother-in-law, Chris Brenton, who died last year aged 36.
The family made it their mission to not only raise funds for worthy causes that help people suffering from depression, but to promote awareness of the help they can offer.
During a fundraising “zumba-thon” workout session at Kinloss’s Cumming Hall, visitors of all ages spent hours dancing to help gather funds.
Ms MacDonald said: “About 20 people must have danced for the full two hours, which was a really impressive effort.
“But there were a lot of people dropping in and out during that time too.
“It was a year last week that my brother-in-law died, and if we have managed to help just one person suffering from depression then that is worth more than any amount of money.
“We don’t want other people to go through what we have had to.”
Ms MacDonald said that, following the event’s success, she and her relatives would look into staging other charity drives.
Forres Mechanics FC legend Charlie Brown backed the fundraiser, and enlisted a Can-Cans goalkeeper to take part in a “beat the goalie” contest.
Mr Brown tried to take his own life last November after succumbing to depression, but now says he is on the “road to recovery” and is urging other sufferers to seek help in dealing with the illness.
The money will be split between the Cruse Bereavement Care, Grampian Child Bereavement Network and Scottish Association for Mental Health charities.
