A Moray theatre group is taking inspiration from a popular TV show in an effort to highlight the range of skills that locals possess.
Members of the town’s Out of the Darkness Theatre Company (ODTC) are hoping to shine a spotlight on some of Moray’s undiscovered stars during an Elgin’s Got Talent event at the weekend.
The show will take place during a family fun day at Cooper Park on Sunday, with registration beginning from 10am.
It is open to entrants of all ages, and individual or group acts can apply to take part.
The winner will receive a trophy as well as a cash prize, which is yet to be determined.
ODTC prides itself on its inclusive ethos, and offers people with disabilities the chance to perform in and help stage its productions.
The group’s Glen Campbell said: “We hope this event will make people more aware of what we do, and help raise funds for our equipment.
“Every penny we collect will go towards our members, our aim is to show what they are capable of and to make sure they aren’t just shoved aside.”
Actor Kevin McKidd is the head patron of the company, and his mum, Cath McKidd will head up the judging panel at the weekend.
She will be joined by Moray MSP Richard Lochhead, Elgin Business Improvement District’s Sine MacDonald and Third Sector Interface (TSI) Moray’s Angela Norrie.
Elgin City North councillor, Patsy Gowans, is a longstanding supporter of the theatre group.
She said: “This is their first big fundraising event, and I applaud ODTC for trying to promote who they are.
“They work with people of all abilities, and it’s important they can keep their finances in shape.”
