Emergency crews were called to a Moray home after an electricity cable caught fire and sent flames shooting up the side of the building.
The blaze broke out at a block of flats in the north of Elgin shortly after 11.30am today.
A neighbour on Alba Place raised the alarm after spotting plumes of black smoke from his living room window.
The man, who did not wish to be named, described his concern when he witnessed the flames rising up the building from a meter box in its back garden.
He added: “I was in the sitting room when I saw all this smoke come by the window and realised something wasn’t right.
“The flames had spread up the side of the building and, by the time I went to see what was going on, the whole electric cable was on fire.
“I just thought ‘God almighty’ when I saw how high they had reached.”
Black marks had been burned onto the side of the building as high as its second floor windows.
Two fire engines from Elgin and one from Fochabers were called to the scene at 11.40am.
A spokesman for the fire service added: “Thankfully, by the time the crews arrived, the fire had burnt itself out and hadn’t caused any damage to the inside of the property.
“We received confirmation that the incident had been dealt with at 11.57am, and firefighters then made sure the scene was safe before leaving.
“Nobody was injured and nobody had to be evacuated.”
Police officers also attended the incident, and a spokeswoman for the force confirmed an inquiry would be launched into the circumstances behind the fire.
