Global drinks giants will rub shoulders with Moray microbrewers during an upcoming celebration of the region’s output.

The programme for the Spirit of Speyside: Distilled festival has been unveiled, and lists more than 30 food and drink producers.

The one-off event has been organised by the team behind the annual Spirit of Speyside whisky festival, as a way of bringing drink manufacturers together under one roof.

The effort means that enthusiasts will be able to sample a range of drams without touring different distilleries, as they would during the usual five-day event.

Organisers have revealed a line-up of more than 30 businesses that are readying to take part.

People will also be able to meet and learn from master distillers during the gathering at Elgin Town Hall, which will run from September 9-11.

Distilleries slated to showcase their wares include Glenlivet, Cardhu, Glen Moray, Glen Grant, Gordon and MacPhail, Glenfiddich and Macallan.

They will share the hall with fledgling Elgin gin firm, El:Gin, and representatives from Gordon Castle who will be offering sips of the gin they make at the historic Fochabers estate.

The Speyside Craft Brewery, Windswept Brewing Co and Spey Valley Brewery will also take part.

Festival manager, Pery Zakeri, said: “Speyside’s food and drink products – especially whisky – are renowned all over the world.

“But Spirit of Speyside: Distilled is not just about celebrating the achievements of these big brands, it’s also about recognising rising stars who may not be as well-known but create outstanding products.

“The format here will allow whisky enthusiasts, and those who have never even tried it before but want to learn to enjoy it, to sample many different brands under one roof, and be introduced to other local producers.”

Food giants Walkers Shortbread and Baxters will attend, along with smaller firms like Dufftown’s Balvenie Street Ice Cream store and Forres’s Aunt Marie’s Kitchen.

The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival began almost 20 years ago, and regularly attracts thousands of visitors from across the world to Moray every spring.
