Captivating images have emerged which show the dramatic weather conditions that unfolded in the skies above Moray last night.
One video, captured by a resident on Bain Avenue in New Elgin, captures the peak of a thunderstorm – which lasted for hours and also affected areas around Cullen and Buckie.
The footage, which was recorded by the iMoray Facebook page, documents booming thunder and forks of lightning illuminating the murky sky a shade of purple as they zig-zag over Elgin.
The flashes were followed by torrential downpours as the night wore on.
And a series of photographs taken by a Buckie resident reveal massive bolts of lightning spreading out over the north-east community.
Mel Forsyth captured the stunning skyscapes from her front door in the town’s Brodie Avenue.
A spokesman for the Met Office explained that the “unstable front” was caused by conditions thousands of feet up in the clouds.
He said: “This was an unstable front caused by cloud conditions last night, it was really driven by goings on 8,000 to 10,000ft high in the atmosphere.”
