The empty streets of Elgin: Video shows quiet rush-hour during lockdown
ByJason Hedges and Gregor Aiken
Scotland is in lockdown and across the country businesses are closed and streets deserted.
At 5pm most Scottish cities are gridlocked with rush-hour traffic as people try to make their way home from work.
This video, filmed at 5pm today, shows the stark differences to what normal traffic would be like at this time of day in Elgin.
Only a few cars can be spotted on the roads and the majority of streets deserted – High Street that is normally filled with busy shoppers and retailers is totally abandoned with no footfall.
Starting from the courts at Glover Street, the circular route takes in High Street, A96 and finishes on Greyfriars Street.
This week Prime Minister Boris Johnson put the UK in lockdown – telling people they must stay in their homes or risk fines.
The action was echoed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who told Scots not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.
Under some circumstances people can leave their homes – for essential shopping, one bit of exercise a day, for medical purposes or travelling to and from work.
