A Moray travel agency has confirmed 19 jobs will be lost due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Beaver Travel says that the move has been forced following business also being affected throughout last year due to continuing Brexit uncertainty.
The redundancies will include all eight staff at the business’s Elgin cafe and five posts in Forres.
The firm said bookings would continue to be honoured and reopening dates for the stores following the lockdown closures are still to be confirmed.
Paul Cronje, director of Beaver Travel, said: “We are deeply saddened to have to be taking this action.
“Prior to the devastating Coronavirus pandemic, business performances in 2019 across both Elgin and Forres branches were negatively affected by Brexit uncertainty.
“The considerable challenges we then faced going into 2020 to achieve profitability have been dwarfed by the devastating long-term impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Following a month-long consultation period, we must take this very regrettable action now in order to ensure the business will survive, albeit with a significantly reduced operational capacity.
“We have done everything we can to try and retain jobs, but we are now faced with a set of circumstances where we have exhausted all other options.”
Beaver Travel was bought by Clyde Travel Management, which also owns Inverness-based Alba Travel, in 2017.
The firm has stressed that existing bookings remain protected and staff remain available for customers to contact while branches remain closed.
