Police and fire crews, including two appliances and two water response units from Elgin and Inverness, were called to the scene late last night. The vehicle, a silver BMW, was found in Buchanhaven, near Peterhead at about 11.30pm. A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed that the car had been left with the handbrake off, parked lengthways with one side veering off the pier. Officers have now managed to track down the owner of the vehicle but it remains unclear how the car had ended up parked in that position. The spokeswoman said: “There is no reason to suspect that anyone is in the water. “We are speaking to the registered keeper just now but it is not clear how the car ended up there.”
