A coastguard helicopter and lifeboat from Fraserburgh have been sent out after an emergency beacon was activated in the North Sea.
The incident is believed to be around six miles from Rattray Head and nine miles from Fraserburgh.
A spokeswoman for Aberdeen Coastguard confirmed:Â “A lifeboat has been sent out from Fraserburgh after an emergency beacon was signalled but it is unclear at this stage why it was signalled.”
Four further vessels – a combination of fishing and oil boats – are now assisting the lifeboat in the search.
