An elderly woman has been found dead outside her Scottish home as heavy rain and freezing conditions continue to batter the UK.
The woman, who has not been named, was found dead in the garden of her home in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow yesterday morning.
The woman is believed to have been outside for several hours in the -1C conditions before she was found.
Meanwhile, the north-east saw record-low temperatures overnight as Braemar dropped to -12C, the coldest November reading in six years.
South of the border, Storm Angus brought hurricane force winds, flooding and power cuts to thousands of homes.
In some areas, road users were forced to abandon their vehicles as heavy rainfall raised water levels to chest height, submerging cars.
In Essex, a woman and her one-year-old son had to be rescued from their car after it became stuck in the flood water.
The Met Office today issued a ‘yellow’ warning of severe rain for South West of England and a more serious ‘amber’ warning for much of Devon.
The warning is in place between 7am and 10am with heavy rain for much of the day – potentially as much as 60mm in two hours.
The heavy rain, coming on top of the weekend’s Storm Angus, is likely to see widespread flash flooding and traffic problems.
