Nearly 70 new emojis are set to hit our mobile phones this June – and the Saltire is finally among them.
Alex Salmond famously campaigned for the introduction of a Scottish flag emoticon in 2015, condemning Scotland’s lack of representation in the emoji keyboard as “outrageous”.
However this year, the Unicode Consortium has finally given the green light for 69 new emoji symbols including the flags of England, Wales and Scotland – and even a curling stone.
This latest batch – known as Emoji 5.0 – will be released in June and should be available on all Apple, Google and Microsoft products, as well as social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The new emoji join 2000 other existing symbols.
