Some parts of the north and north-east could still be surprised by a White Christmas tonight.
Despite forecasts for a more soggy affair, with showers throughout the region during the course of the day, some parts of the Highlands and Aberdeenshire are expected to receive a sprinkling of snow this evening.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather weather for snow and ice, expiring at 11am on December 26.
It was predicting snowfall of up to 10cm on higher ground, with sleet or light dustings of snow elsewhere.
The organisation warned that it could lead to travel disruption through into Boxing Day.
A spokesman said: “Some roads and railways may be affected by longer journey times, with icy surfaces leading to the possibility of slips and falls on roads, pavements and cycle paths.”
