Police have named the Scottish officer who died while on duty.
PC Roy Buggins, 51, had 29 years’ service as an officer.
A police statement said: “(He) was a highly valued and well-respected member of the Montrose and Brechin Community Policing Team.
“Our thoughts are with his friends and family, who have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”
He was in the Montrose area and believed to be working at a road traffic accident when he died.
Chief Superintendent Andrew Todd, divisional commander for the Tayside region, said last night: “I can confirm a Police Scotland officer has this afternoon died while on duty in the Montrose area.
“The sympathies of everyone at Police Scotland are with the officer’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
David Hamilton, vice-chairman of the Scottish Police Federation, also paid tribute last night: “So very sad to lose another good colleague today.
“A fine officer who will be very much in my thoughts at tomorrow’s Scottish Police Memorial Service.”
